Welcome to Romanian Catalysis Society

In 1991, an initiative group, formed by Prof. Dr. Emilian Angelescu, Ing.Gavril Musca, Dr. Ing. Grigore Pop and Dr. Mihai Vass, has considered the establishment of the Romanian Catalysis Society (SCR) as professional and scientific association of chemists and chemical engineers with interests in catalysts and catalytic processes.
SCR was founded in 1992 by a decision of the Bucharest Tribunal. Academic specialists in chemistry education from Bucharest, Iasi, Cluj, Timisoara, Craiova and Ploiesti, researchers from research institutes and centers (CCF, Romanian Academy, ICCHIM, ZECASIN, INECRP – Ploiesti, CCh – Craiova), and from industrial units (Brazi and Vega Oil Refineries, Brazi, Pitesti or Borzesti Chemical Plants) joined SCR.
In 1993 SCR was affiliated to EFCATS (European federation of Catalysis Societies), with an initial effect of 220 members.
Initially, the SCR activity took place in working groups formed at the level of teaching, research and production of components units.
SCR presidency was provided by the Founder President Prof. Emilian Angelescu (1992 – 2005) and Prof. Dr. Vasile Parvulescu (2005 – today) which fulfills also the function of Secretary of the EFCATS Administrative Committee.
Organizing the first two symposiums catalyst before 1989 was due Prof. I.V. Nicolescu.  SCR continued to organize this scientific event so that the 11th International Symposium, ROMCAT will be held at Timisoara in 2016; previous editions were held in Bucuresti, Ploiesti, Iasi si Cluj.
SCR by its members was present at all EUROPACAT congresses organized by EFCATS, and other important scientific events on catalysis.
Between 1993 - 2002 SCR edited the biannual journal Progress in Catalysis in English language.
In the 23 years from the establishment of SCR until now, but especially in the last decade, SCR activity was oriented towards increasing the value of scientific papers published by members of the society in order to enhance the international visibility of the Romanian research in the field of catalysis.

International cooperation have been established with a positive impact on the exchange of information, experience and professional specialization of young researchers.
SCR combine its efforts with the community of chemists to give Romanian chemistry and chemical industry the place they deserve in a modern society with a strong and efficienct economy.
